I am a big fan of superfoods containing grasses like wheatgrass and barley grass, and algae like chlorella and spirulina. Sometimes however, their strong taste can mean adding them to a juice or smoothie just isn’t appealing at all!
But I am very happy to report that Nature’s Living Superfood green powder by Kiki Health tastes rather nice! It also contains good bacterial cultures, which is an added bonus. If you sprinkle it on food or soups it adds a sort of umami savoury flavour, and can be used as a healthy seasoning alternative instead of salt.
I have been adding it to this green juice, which I have three times a week. A half to one teaspoon a day is really easy to manage too, just don’t heat it up as this will damage the live cultures. I also love that it’s organic, comes from the UK and is packed in glass (so no BPA from plastic). What more could you ask for?!
If you find yourself a bit over-stuffed with Christmas cheer (too many canapés and mince pies perhaps?), then this green juice is just the pick-me-up you need to cleanse your system and get you back on track.
It’s the perfect juice if you are feeling bloated, water-logged, sluggish, or if you are pre-menstrual – and after a long plane journey it’s the best thing for swollen ankles! It can really help when you’re going through IVF too if you drink it in between egg collection and embryo transfer.
I love how clean and fresh this juice is – and so very green! When I have it first thing in the morning it inspires me to keep going with my intake of greens, meaning I get a great big daily dose of antioxidants.
The celery, parsley and cucumber are mild diuretics which help to shift fluid build-up; the fennel is perfect for bloating; the ginger is anti-inflammatory; the spinach is packed with nutrients and antioxidants that are good for ovarian function and egg quality, as well as your skin and immune system; and the apple and lime add a zingy sweetness. It’s also the ideal juice to add the KIKI Living Superfood powder to.
Top Tip 1: Best taken first thing in the morning to give you an energising boost that will last all day long.
Top Tip 2: If you are looking to lose a little weight then just have this juice in the morning and wait until lunchtime before you eat anything. This acts as a version of the fasting for 16 hours and eating within an 8-hour window diet.
1 small, or half a large fennel bulb
2 sticks of celery
1 small knob of ginger
Half a cucumber
A handful of parsley
2 green apples
A handful of spinach
Juice of half a lime
Half a tsp to one full tsp of Kiki ’s Nature’s Living Superfood green powder
Put all your ingredients through a juicer, then pour mixture through a sieve to remove any residue before drinking.
For best results recipe requires the use of juicer as other blenders result in a too-thick consistency. If you don’t have a juicer, you could alternatively try using the ingredients to make a simple raw green salad, top with the lime juice and a dash of olive oil, then sprinkle your KIKI Superfood powder on top to season.
